VL1 - All in one CCTV solution with floodlight
What power does the VL1 need?
The VL1 is mains powered, 240V AC 50Hz and will easily replace any existing light.
Can I use the VL1 as a web cam?
Yes - the VL1 will work as a web cam but before connecting it to your PC you must install the driver and if necessary the image viewing application using the CD supplied with the VL1.
Does the VL1 come with a USB lead?
Yes so you can directly connect your VL1 to your computer to download images from internal memory or an SD card if fitted.
What length of USB lead can I use?
The USB standard defines a maximum length of 5m and you can buy an extension lead to achieve this, however many people have reported success using much longer USB cables but we would not recommend this unless absolutely necessary.
Can I use the VL1 to send images to the web?
Yes - we recommend using free software from www.visongs.de which allows you to build a motion detection security system that can upload images to a web site or email them to an address. Note though that your VL1 will need to be permenantly connected to your PC for this to work.
I am having problems putting my VL1 into TEST mode.
We suggest turning off the power for five minutes to allow a full reset of your VL1 before you proceed. To enter test mode, briefly press the SET and MODE buttons together - the screen will show TEST, you can now follow the instructions in your user guide to setup your camera system.
How do I change the date and time?
Enter TEST mode by briefly pressing the SET and MODE keys together so the display shows TEST. Press the MODE button repeatedly untill the LCD displays: T, 00-00 and is flashing. Press the SET button repeatedly to set the HOURS. Press the MODE button to confirm. Now press the SET button repeatedly to set the MINUTES, then press the MODE button to confirm. The display will now change to “4.01.06” representing the date in the format MM.DD.YY. Press the SET button to set the MONTH followed by the MODE button to confirm. Repeat this process to set the Day and Year. Still images will be stamped with the time and date you set here.
My VL1 has stopped taking video clips or photos.
It is possible that you have experienced a power cut. In some cases, where there is considerable spiking during a power failure or where the power goes on and off repeatedly over a short period of time, then a VL1 can become frozen. To solve this turn off the power for five minutes, then turn it back on again and change any settings as necessary. Check that the operation of your VL1 is now as expected.
How does the VL1 overwrite earlier recordings when the SD card is full?
The VL1 will continue to give each successive recording (be it a photo or video clip) a unique and sequential reference number. When the memory is full it will begin overwritting, replacing the earliest recordings in order but using the next sequential reference. For example, if an SD card contains 2000 recordings, numbers 1 to 1999 and the card is now full, the next recording will overwrite the earliest one on the card, in this case number 1. However it will still use the reference 2000 and 2001,2002,2003 and so on for subsequent recordings, deleting recordings 2,3 and 4 in the process.
My SD card does not appear to overwrite recordings
Please check that the data protection tab on your SD card has not been locked, preventing overwritting of files. Also see the explanation above on how the VL1 overwrites earlier files.
